6 SUNNAH ACTS TO BE PERFORMED ON EIDUL FITRI

The thought of Eid alone brings a smile to the face of every muslim especially during the month of Ramadan. Many of us have our eid outfit ready. In fact, if you are like me, you’d already have more than one outfit ready or be visiting several stores looking for the perfect dress, hijab and accessories for this beautiful celebration. However, we must note that the Eid day is not just about the fine clothes and the nice food we get to eat that day. These are some of the sunnahs of the prophet (saw) that we are enjoined to follow on Eidul fitri;

Ghusl Bath: The prophet (SAW) use to take the ritual bath before heading to the mosque for Eid. Asides that, hygiene is a fundamental part of our religion.

Eat Before Going To The Mosque: We are encouraged to eat even as little as a date before observing the eid prayer and to avoid fasting before observing the prayer.

Say The Takbeer Enroute to The Praying ground
“Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar llahillaha illahllah Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar walihamdulillah”

Great one another with greetings such as “taqaballahu minnaa waminkum” or “eid mubarak”

Change routes when leaving the mosque after prayers. It was reported that the prophet use to take a different route from the one he took to the mosque on Eid days. Some said he does this in order to create awareness about the Eid celebration and some said it is done so that on the day of judgement, the two routes would testify that you took part in the Eid prayers. Either ways, this is a very beautiful sunnah of the prophet (saw) that i want to encourage us to follow.

Lastly, make sure you pay your zakat before the commencement of the Eid prayer. This is not an obligatory act but a compulsory act.

May Allah accepts this year’s Ramadan and Eid from us as an act of worship
